The Springs Reformed Church (RPCNA) is fully committed to the full inspiration and authority of the Bible in all matters of faith and life. We believe that the truth of Scripture is knowable and necessary for salvation—So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ (Rom. 10:17). Since Christ commissioned the church to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19), we believe it is part of our duty to, set forth the truth of Scripture clearly and publicly by way of preaching and teaching, and creeds and confessions, so that they may be to taught to observe all that I have commanded (Matt. 28:20).
In light of the above, we believe that the most comprehensive and accurate summary of what the Bible teaches is to be found in the Westminster Confession of Faith, together with the Westminster Larger and Shorter Catechisms. The Westminster Confession was completed in England in 1647 as a comprehensive statement of Christian belief and practice, with the desired intention of helping Christ’s church become unified in doctrine, government, and worship (John 17:11). In addition to the Westminster Standards, we also maintain the Testimony of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, which is our continuing and contemporary application of the Word of God to our current culture and context.
Each of these documents is considered to be subordinate to, and correctable by, the Word of God. We hope that you will take some time to read our Confessional Standards and

if you have any questions or concerns.
God desires to be acknowledged as holy by those who approach Him in worship (e.g. Lev. 10:3; Heb. 12:28-29). Thus we must approach Him on His terms. His terms are dictated to us in the Bible, and we can summarize those terms by what is known as the biblical "Regulative Principle of Worship". The RPW simply stated is, 'Do what God commands, and whatever is not commanded, do not do' (ref. Duet. 12:32).
In accordance with the regulative principle of worship we have a Christ-centered, Word-oriented worship service. We begin with a call to worship from the Word and come in Christ's merits into the presence of God. We pray according to the Word and in Christ's name. We sing the Psalms-the songs of the Word-exclusively (and without musical accompaniment), as they primarily speak of Him (e.g. Luke 20:42-44). We hear the Word read-the Word of Christ (Rom. 10:17). We hear the Word preached-Christ and Him crucified. We leave being blessed by the benedictions from the Word-the blessing of Christ.
We desire, above all, to be pleasing to God in our worship. And thus, our worship is not entertainment, but a reverent, yet joyous time of praising and adoring our triune God and the salvation He has provided for His people.
Springs Reformed Church was originally organized in 1981 as the "Colorado Springs Reformed Presbyterian Fellowship".
The church consisted of a few couples and individuals who had been meeting as a Bible study group and commuting on Sundays to worship at Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church in Westminster, Colorado.
The church met in the home of Bob and Ruth Mann (Bob is now an elder emeritus in this congregation) for about three years. Then one of the organizing families bought a home that had a five car garage. God provided a loan and many gifts that enabled us to remodel that garage into a meeting place that could seat about 50 people. We met in this "garage" for about 10 years and we were pastored by Bruce Backensto for the first five years.
In 1986, the church called J. Paul McCracken to be our pastor. In 1992, God provided so that the congregation could buy an old, unoccupied church building in downtown Colorado Springs. After extensive remodeling, the building became a wonderful space in which to worship and fellowship. As we made the move to the new building, we shortened our name to "Springs Reformed Church".
In 2002, Pastor J. Paul McCracken retired from ministerial work, at which time David Reese, who interned with Pastor McCracken during his final year of pastoral service, completed his seminary training and accepted a call from this congregation to begin to serve full time as our pastor. Springs Reformed Church has benefited greatly from Pastor Reese's training, gifts, and graces (listen to Pastor Reese's sermons).
Our attendance each Lord's Day morning now averages around 140 people among whom there are single folks, younger and older married couples, and families (including a plethora of covenant children).
We praise God that he was pleased to raise up this congregation to worship and serve Him, and that He continues to add to our numbers those who are seeking to worship Him in "spirit and truth" (John 4:24).
The “Reformed” in our name refers to our adherence to the biblical principles set down by the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century. Our spiritual forefathers include Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Knox.
“Presbyterian” refers to our form of church government. Each congregation is under the oversight of a plurality of elders, who are also part of broader courts known as presbyteries and Synod.
Reformed Presbyterians trace their roots to Scotland and have also been referred to historically as Covenanters because of their identification with the covenanting church of Scotland. We have historically stood for Christ’s crown rights over the state and the recognition of Christ as King over the Church without interference from the government.
The first Reformed Presbyterian congregation was organized in North America in 1743. Since that time, the Kingship of Christ has been maintained as a foundational principle of our denomination. Today, congregations reach all across North America and Japan. We also acknowledge sister churches of Reformed Presbyterians in Ireland, Scotland, and Australia.

Our approach to being faithful to the whole counsel of God is to focus on Christ by expository preaching in morning worship, topical studies in our second hour classes, and systematic theology (i.e. Westminster Confession of Faith, etc.) in the evening studies.
Our belief is that the scriptures teach us that the Church’s great commission is to, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matt. 28:19-20). In regards to our children, we believe that this is a primary duty of the parents and that the church should assist and come along side them in the performance of this duty. We desire that all of our children will come to a realization of their own sin and their need for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and that they will make a real and earnest profession of faith in Christ, accompanied by a heartfelt desire to walk by the Spirit and live lives of holiness. To that end, we have developed the following curriculum that is both structured and comprehensive, equipping the children (and the adults) to know the God whom they worship and the great salvation that He has provided for them in His Son, Christ Jesus. We also stress the importance of catechizing and have developed a program of using and learning the Westminster Shorter Catechism for all in our congregation, from toddlers to adults.
Elementary (Toddlers thru 6th Grade): Bible Grammar (Knowledge) – During these formative years we want to introduce the little children to the stories, characters and events of the Bible.
Junior High (7th thru 8th Grade): Bible Logic (Understanding) – This age group will learn a systematic and orderly understanding of the doctrines taught in Scripture from a Reformed perspective.
High School (9th thru 12th Grade): Bible Rhetoric/Application (Wisdom) – At this age we focus on application of what has been learned by defending the faith, sharing the faith, and living exemplary Christian lives (i.e. apologetics, prayer, evangelism, biblical theology, etc).
Adults: During our 2nd Hour, the adults have been studying various topics such as evangelism, apologetics, church history, the doctrine of sanctification, proper Biblical interpretation, etc.
Westminster Shorter Catechism: This being one of our subordinate standards, we encourage the entire congregation, beginning in the Toddler years, to learn and memorize the questions and answers of the Shorter Catechism. Catechizing is an old and proven method to learn the truths of scripture in a way that will equip the saints to be able to give a “…reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet. 3:15).
Although we are small, we are not isolationists. We have fellowship with many other churches and are part of some voluntary organizational groups such as the National Association of Presbyterian and Reformed Churches (NAPARC). More importantly, we believe that the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19) is His command to the Church today and we endeavor to be obedient to this command in our support of international, national, and local missions and missionaries.
Our desire is to proclaim Christ and Him crucified, and to see God’s kingdom come and His will be done. Our prayer is that the Lord will continue to use us and be pleased to add His blessing to the work of our hands. We endeavor to be consistently Reformed in doctrine and practice, evangelistically minded in life and proclamation, and progressively obedient in duty and obligation. We hope that our individual lives and the testimony of our church will be used by God as a means to bring His elect to saving faith and that this would be to the praise and honor of our King Jesus Christ as we seek to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
